So far it's great, Barbara! I can see why it was a fav.
I’ve got this one on deck. Funny this is (unpopular opinion warning) I am NOT a fan of Huck Finn. Like at all!! But the high ratings for James has me curious so I’m going to give it a shot…

Diana you're not alone concerning Huck Finn. It's been a long time, so I looked at Wiki to recall some details of the plot. If I had liked it more, I would have reread before starting James. I'm liking James so far, so you might too.
Wow, you did a field trip to Aunt Polly's house? Very cool. I believe James became more dignified at the end, although he started with dignity. I loved how Everett ended it. I felt hope, I felt James' dignity. Everett can write!!
I enjoyed reading your review, Ron. When a book gives me thoughts that are likely to stay with me, I usually can't ask for more. Especially if it's well written.
It's been so long since I've read Mark Twain that it'd be fun (as if I have time) to read his books and then this one. Wonderful review, Ron!

Thank you, I know you loved Trees Diane. Like it, this has so much to say. Makes me want to try more.

Yes, but it was a vacation trip, Barbara. My stepdad's grandmother had lived there and he wanted to show us the place he knew. Everett doesn't hold back with his character's trajectory and thought. Saying James had dignity feels right. Anything for love, family and virtue. Thanks!

Thanks, Nika! Since closing this, it has rushed back into my thoughts in many moments, and especially while writing a review. Love the fact that reading can bring about further thought.

I know what you're saying Marilyn. I wanted to reread Huckleberry Finn before starting this, but in the end did not. I believe I remembered enough, and then realized as much as this starts with Huck and Jim, it becomes about James. Thank you!

You know, I've learned to love a book that can do that Laysee. Thank you.
Agreed..some of his best work to date, though I've been a fan since his earliest..any author that defies genre categorization, has a nutty sense of humor and is super creative gets my vote

Call me a new fan of Everett, Jonathan. Though I've read only two, they were both outstanding. I'm sure he's won awards (something I'll look into), but this book is worth another one. His humor in The Trees caught me by surprise, giving that boom amazing balance.

I don't expect leave a book with questions for myself, but really appreciate when it happens, Diana.
