I'm going to read a picture book for this one! Probably Puff, the Magic DragonIf for some reason I cannot get that book, my back up choices are:
Octopus's Garden
Every Little Thing: Based on the Song 'Three Little Birds' by Bob Marley
Blowin' in the Wind
Forever Young
I'm probably going to read The Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora: A Novel. It's a novel inspired by the author's own musical career, and he interviewed other musicians as part of his research for it as well.
The Deep by Rivers Solomon, with Daveed Diggs, William Hutson, Jonathan Snipes is inspired by the Hugo Award–nominated song “The Deep” from Daveed Diggs’s rap group clipping.
Acidic Quagga wrote: "The Deep is inspired by the Hugo Award–nominated song “The Deep” from Daveed Diggs’s rap group clippingWow, I didn't know that. That's so cool!
Laura Ruth wrote: "Sweet - I have John Scalzi's When the Moon Hits Your Eye sitting on my shelf!"That is a fun read!
Just Kids by Patti Smith sounds like just the thing - and should also tick off the male / female friendship prompt.
At the moment, I'm thinking of Ziggy, Stardust and Me, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for other options.
The Half-White Album is looking like a treasure. Obviously inspired by the Beatles' White Album, it's a compilation of stories, poetry, essays, and more by a Diné woman (Indigenous) about what it is like being a Native American woman navigating urban USA.Every piece has a title of a song (not necessarily from the White album)!
The 33 1/3 series of books is a series of short books, each about a particular famous album. If you're interested in music history and want a short book to knock out this prompt, one of these could be a good choice, and they cover a WIDE variety of artists.I've already read one book in this series, Master of Reality, and for this challenge I'll be reading In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
I am not a Taylor Swift fan at all. I'm only biased for 3 of her songs. That being said, I have a book called Invisible Strings: 113 Poets Respond to the Songs of Taylor Swift that I got this year.
l meant to read it but didn't have time so it's going to 2026.
While I'm not a Swiftie, this book caught my attention because I'm curious as to how poets can be inspired by her music to create poetry based off her songs.
I've been inspired by my interests- movies, tv shows, music, and written poems on them so that's why I'm also interested in this book.
I'm gong to to read Tramps Like Us, It's a one from Born to Run and seems to be inspired by the song as the characters are on the run to find acceptance
I added the ten books in Ed Gorman's mystery series "Sam McCain" Nine of the titles are song titles and most have at least four books with the same name. Some of the song titles have more than five books with the same name. The first isn't a song title but it is a phrase in a song and was inspired by the plane crash in Iowa in 1959. when I added the books. I added notes. when I added the books.

I'm biased because I'm a swiftie but I loved this collection so much. It's such a great mixture of poetic styles and voices, and even though each poet was assigned a song to respond to/ write about/ be inspired by, it's really cool how differently each writer interpreted that

That's what has me interested in it. I'm curious as to how the poets interpret the music in their own way to create poetry.
Just noticed that Martha Kelly Hall has a new book out in May about a 70s rock band couple- usually her stuff is based on actual things in history, so guessing that's the basis for this one...More Than Famous: A Novel
LOL I don't know what happened to my Invisible Strings book. I think I have it in my wrapped TBR somewhere but I forgot which month and I don't want to unwrap them all just to get to it. Also don't want to buy a new copy of this.I'll have to find a different book that fits this prompt.
I just read an article about the author Ashley Poston where she says her book The Seven Year Slip was inspired by Motion City Soundtrack's song "Timelines".
I used Garth Brooks The Anthology Part VI The Comeback The Next Five Years for this prompt. If you don't already have the music from other releases, then the CDs included are already worth the price of the book. Apart from that, there is some great photography and discussion of the writing of each song.
Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love was evidently inspired by an old Scottish Folk song called "The Ramblin' Rover" by Silly Wizard (Andy M. Stewart). The book is a quirky little story about an unlikely friendship and an old 90 year old man who's never had his first kiss.
I'm currently reading Johnny Got His Gun, which I think works for this. The title comes from a line in a song which was later turned into a rallying cry to encourage young men to enlist.
I was struggling to choose a book for this one, but then I learned about (Don't You) Forget About Me by Kate Karyus Quinn. It sounds a bit creepy and off, which I love.As a Gen X lady who loves that song, I guess I found my book.
A question: I thought that it was my own inspiration this prompt was about - I mean if I listen to a favorite song and the theme or the feelings or the lyrics makes me think of a book to read. But after scrolling through a portion of this thread and reading what's on the top I wonder if I've misinterpreted the whole thing. Are we required to read a book of which the author has been inspired by a song (band, artist) when she wrote it?
Nike, I think that the idea behind the prompt was the author being inspired, but I can't see why it couldn't be interpreted as your own inspiration. I actually prefer that way of looking at it.

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi is more a series of vignettes than a novel. It's a science fiction comedy which starts with the moon turning into actual cheese.http://www.lauraruthloomis.com/whats-...

Yes! I have owned a copy of Me by Elton John for years now!
