Great review! For someone has not read Faulkner’s great works, would this book rob them of something of that experience? Or prime them so that they don’t miss a thing when they finally do take them up?
I would read it concurrently with the novels. Start with the masterpieces: the sound and the fury, Absalom Absalom, Light in August. The book will tell you where to go from there. Hope you enjoy it!
"Dazzling" is the right word because he brings back Faulkner's original dazzling achievement. I found the chapter on "Absalom Absalom" the best tho maybe only because that remains for me the greatest reading experience. I read it fifty years ago, and as soon as I finished turned around and read it again!
