does anyone know if contemporary readers knew, when these first novels were published, that this was intended as a 12 part saga?
Phil wrote: "does anyone know if contemporary readers knew, when these first novels were published, that this was intended as a 12 part saga?"This is what AI says:
"No, A Dance to the Music of Time by Anthony Powell was not originally intended to be 12 books. While planned as a long sequence, it grew significantly from an initial idea of perhaps three or four volumes to eight or nine by 1956, only settling on the final 12-book structure around 1962."
The narrator seems to fall in love with every girl he meets. After a bit of a struggle to get into the second volume, I’ve started liking it though there are times I don’t get what the author is trying to say.
in my review I said that these books are like I'd imagine PG Wodehouse would write if he included no jokes, or any interesting characters or situations.
I just bought great used copies of Movements Two, Three, and Four (I already own One). Each Movement contains three volumes. So I guess here I go! Just starting Book 2, so I have some catching up to do. Is anyone else going for all 12?
