I read the trilogy and found the #1 to be the best. I did not realize the details about the plagiarism. And yes, we should not forget about that period of time.
From the article, he met a man with this story and took it for his own. It is also said he has no noticeable tattoo. And he does not even speak Hungarian fluently— not my words but articles found online and many reviewers here have links— It seems he is sketchy.
Regarding the novel though, I found it be flat for such a horrific emotional time. I think I expected too much from having a Pulitzer Prize.
I didn’t read this in HS but I’m sure I would have been even more sad and upset and believed every word. He’s the “face” of the Holocaust and that’s a slap in the face to the people who went through this. I’ve heard of. Jewish professor that made her university students read it and then at the end told them it was a fake and they had to write a dissertation about why would anyone do this. It’s very telling when your own people are denying you
Yes, I agree with you, and some idiots deny the holocaust ever happened. In my opinion those people are dangerous as they would let it happen again. Hitler had his first attempt at taking power in 1923. He didn't start killing Jews until almost 20 years later. I am sure there were idiots in 1923 who said that the pogroms of the nineteen century were a thing of the past and wouldn't happen again.
I don’t understand anyone denying the Holocaust. It really happened and it was a horror to know it could happen but also since then there have been many things happening like 9/11, Christian Holocausts and so on. The fact that this person was never in the Holocaust and is claiming he was is beyond disgraceful.
I read the book 2 years ago. After digging more into his story I can back to give this frauds book a 1 star.
Kenzie, unfortunately there are so many Holocaust frauds. I sometimes listen to Norman Finkelstein and as his parents really were Holocaust survivors he says, “If everyone was a Holocaust survivor then who really died?” Or something to that effect. It’s disgusting. Oh and fun fact:: he’s related to Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine Maxwell’s father of the great Jeffery Epstein scandal. Robert mentions him as a cousin his memoir. Small world
Well that sucks about the review! I love reading your reviews and how you feel about it. Also, don't be mad because I know you aren't happy about it, but your response made me giggle a little. 😅
Hi Jennifer! I’m so glad to see you. I love making people laugh so yes that’ll make my day. I don’t think it’s just my review at this point. I think many people with opinions might be targeted. People have become little baby bitches….
Wow, Karina! This is a powerful review! I read this one so many years ago and really liked it then, hence the 5 stars. Has this author ever defended himself against the articles you've mentioned?
Honestly, I’ve never seen an article where he defends himself against the original Holocaust survivor that actually knew the man. And I’ve read things from actual survivors that say a lot of the things in his book are impossible like staying with your family member through all the moves, he didn’t know his mother tongue Hungarian, no tattoo, the survivors being malnourished and almost dead would not have a sex drive to go rape women, like he says at the end. the original version in Yiddish is very gross and different from the English translation against non Jews. I wish I could read it. Also, he has assault claims against him he got away with. A Jewish woman came forward after her daughter said she was groped by him. I think I just hate the victim mentality. After 9/11 there were so many fake victims scamming for money, I guess it’s more common than people think. Please don’t believe anything I say. Look into it yourself and make your own conclusions. Norman Finkelstein’s mother said, “if everyone was a Holocaust survivor then who really died?” She and her husband were survivors that refused to talk about their experiences. Love Finkelstein! ♥️
Karina, you have spoken quite passionately about both the review being edited and the holocaust denials. Good for you for speaking up.
Taveri, I’m just so sick of people’s need to feel shocked and appalled. And then the people that honor that behavior. I don’t know what’s worse. I have a right to have an opinion and people have a right to disagree with me but not be a troll about it. The review being edited after many years feels icky, very violating. Speaking up and noticing will soon be a crime. It’s scary this shit happening in the United States and England

Hi Wendy, I know of Australia… I am a big Candace Owens and Novak Djokovic fan and what Australia did to them speaks volumes. Banning people from the country because of different opinions, policing people’s social media accounts… All that means is that it’s coming to everyone else. I hope things get better. We won’t have any basic human rights anymore if the elitist can have their say. People need to start getting pissed off. Hugs your way. Don’t give up and teach your kids not to accept whatever slop they feed us…
