Sharon Williams Hello fellow readers,

I wanted to begin a discussion for A Father’s Love: Faith and Family by Jean DeFreese Moore.

This powerful Christian historical fiction novel takes place during the Civil War and follows Travis, a man whose peaceful life in the Allegheny Mountains is forever changed by war. Through hardship, loss, danger, and uncertainty, Travis must rely on his faith in God while protecting his family and rebuilding a new life.

The novel beautifully combines Civil War history, western adventure, family struggles, redemption, and strong Christian faith. From the battlefields of war to the dangerous cattle country of the American Midwest, the story explores courage, forgiveness, resilience, and the enduring power of hope.

Discussion Questions:

What did you think about Travis’s journey throughout the novel?
How did faith help the characters survive difficult circumstances?
Which moments in the story felt the most emotional or inspiring?
How did the Civil War setting shape the characters and their choices?
What role did family play in helping the characters endure hardship?
How did Travis grow as both a father and a man of faith?
What message of redemption and hope stood out most to you?

Feel free to share:
