M.J. Webb Hi,

I'd just like to let members know that my seventh novel is due for release on 24th April. It's a mystery thriller and will be on Amazon and KU.

'When a well-connected aristocrat known for cruelty is shot dead at his ancestral estate, the precision of the hit tells its own story. This was planned, funded, and meant to send a message. Two masked gunmen vanish without a trace.

For Detective Inspector Bob Davis rules are optional and tact is overrated. His partner, Detective Sergeant Jodie Taylor, is determined to prove herself. But the victim’s past turns out to be darker than anyone expected and the deeper they dig, the more dangerous it becomes. The more enemies they make.

Soon, Davis and Taylor aren’t just investigating a murder. They’re uncovering a secret tied to powerful figures who will do anything to keep it buried… How hard do you push to uncover the truth, knowing that you may not survive it?'

The Alderby Grange Affair by M J Webb

I'm happy to answer questions.

Thanks for the opportunity to post.

Carol/Bonadie This sounds good, MJ! Is it a series? (I'll go look.)

Good luck with it.

M.J. Webb Thanks so much. No, it's a standalone. A mystery thriller. Best wishes.

M.J. Webb I kinda dislike the beast I become after publishing a new novel, checking for comments and reviews every five minutes like a mad man.

I seriously have to chill. Lol

I can't imagine, LOL. Hope you are getting positive feedback.

I'd be an absolute wreck, so you are doing well!

Picked this up today on kindle. It sounds really interesting (and I love that there is a female partner). I can't promise that I can fit it in quickly, but I will read it by August. I'm able to slate it into 6 different challenges that I'm in across three different groups, so hopefully it gives you a bit more "air play" so to speak.

M.J. Webb Wow! Thank you so much. It's been a theme of mine to have strong female characters so hopefully you'll enjoy it. Thanks also for the best wishes both. Really appreciated.

M.J. Webb The hardest part is convincing readers to give it a try.
As ever.
I'm absolutely pants at that. :-)

M.J. Webb Hi guys. Despite my best efforts I have received next to no interest in my new novel which has gained decent reviews so far and I'd appreciate your thoughts as to why The Alderby Grange Affair (and indeed all of my books) has/have failed to entice Goodreads members?

Thank you.

Carol/Bonadie Hi M.J. I can't think of a reason, but don't claim to be an expert on GR readers and how they select books to read. Speaking for myself, there are just so many interesting-sounding books out there, plus my favorite authors' new releases are also competing for my attention. I was going to suggest giving away freebies in exchange for a review (like with NetGalley), but maybe you are past wanting more reviews and instead are wondering why the positive reviews you are seeing aren't translating into book sales. If so, I'm stumped. Anyone else here have an idea?

message 11: by M.J. (new)

M.J. Webb Thanks for replying. I'd be happy to do freebies but the hundreds I have done to date generated very few reviews and had no impact on sales.

I'm the first to admit that I'm at fault for the most part. I have a full-time job and haven't devoted enough time and resources to marketing. I'm not expecting to move mountains, just surprised to be flatlining with 7 novels out there and wondering why none of my titles have gained traction?

Thanks again and best wishes.

Carol/Bonadie I'm sure you've got a handle on anything I'm about to suggest, and they cost money of course, so there is that. Do you have an agent/publishing house to do some of the marketing? Do you attend any of the many conferences aimed at mystery readers? I attend Bouchercon and it's a great place for authors to promote their work via panels, speed dating type events, etc.

M.J. Webb Thanks for the advice. Most appreciated. Will look into it. :-)
