I think you'll really like the second book, it has a stronger storyline that is a little bit more clearer to understand. It's initially a little off-putting because it doesn't start with Vasya as you would expect, but once it does go to her, it was smooth sailing. For me anyways :)

Oh ok, good to know that the second one doesn't start with Vasya, but gets stronger after it does. I'm really excited for it... I'm just waiting for my hold at the library to come in. :)

Aah, that's awesome! I'm going to start book #2 this week, and I'm really excited! :)
Great review, Yun! I also enjoyed this story! If you thought trying to keep characters' names straight, try listening to the audiobook! Yikes! I had to go to the print version where this made much more sense to me.

Thanks, Debbie! Haha, yikes indeed! I can imagine how listening to the names would be even harder! Totally makes sense that this would be a book to read instead of listened to lol! 😅

Thanks, Kealyn! ❤️
I loved this book with a passion. Having been exposed to Russian folklore as a child, I didn't find the naming confusing, but I can see the struggle for someone who isn't accustomed to it. I respect the author so much for the thorough research she did on this book. Absolutely amazing read!
Wonderful review, Yun! I enjoyed Arden’s most recent book, and was curious about this one. I’ll definitely check it out!!
I have always wanted to read this book. But for some reason I never purchased it. I really must. I love how diverse the books are that you read. You always inspire me to read books that are out of the box for me.
Wow! Such a compelling review, Yun! This series is already on my TBR but you've made me even more excited to get to it! It sounds delightful in almost every way.

The second one is my absolute favorite of the series, and when I met Katherine Arden at the signing for Unicorn Hunters, she said Girl in the Tower is also her favorite and she “wouldn’t change a single thing about it.” You can tell! I hope you love it too.

Thanks, Caitlin! How cool that you got to meet KA! I'm doing a reread of this trilogy right now, and then I'll move onto Unicorn Hunters, but on my first go around, the 2nd book was my fav too! :)
Love your description of the prose and reading experience. I’ve had my eye on this one for some time. I will need to make this one a priority sooner rather than later. Marvelous review, Yun.
I'm reading this now.I'm so glad you liked it! I won't read your review yet. I know you don't d spoilers but even too much description can skew things for me so I'll wait.💚
The combination of fantasy rooted in folklore and lyrical prose sounds stunning! And a heroine you can root for is always a win. So happy this made such an impact on you Yun. What a beautiful heartfelt review 💗💕
