Actually ZI looked it up and nit seems that Mark Twain only wrote part of the book and other authors completed it. Note the difference between the beginning and latter parts of the story.
Yes, I just read the Wikipedia article about it, and it seems to cover the subject nicely. I edited my review accordingly.

Twain has written other stories ridiculing religious writings, and all of them maintained Twain's light-toned mockery. That is what made me suspicious to begin with.
What you wish to see as "hate" was and is merely the demonstrable fact being stated clearly.
