I got the impression it was more about how both the mother and the father reacted to the name of the child. Those reactions in turn impacted the child’s life which is perhaps how names work? Although the child certainly responded to his name’s meaning in each case as well. I thought there was a lot to enjoy but perhaps it had to do with my own experiences with people and their names.
Agree! It seems the 3 different names were only a device to separate the three different possible scenarios.
It was the action of the mother in each scenario of choosing a name, to what degree she defied or went along with her husband's demand of naming their son after him. Her decisions showed her own strengths and weaknesses and how that affected her and her children's lives in each case.

It's not misleading. The reason she named him the different names was because of how she decided to move forward. And the way she decided to move forward changed the trajectory of all of their lives.
I also understood from the hype that the name determined the child's character and behaviour, not the mother's. THis was so slow, predictable and woodenly written that I gave up and returned the audiobook, something I have never done before.
Agree. It was very misleading as I expected the book to actually be about the names themselves, not just that picking a name was the specific event in a domestic violence situation to create 3 different timelines.
