Christy, Thanks for the nice review. As the author, I will reply to the two points.
1. The book was written 16 years ago, and in that time there are plenty of powder and tablet options. I haven't dried toothpaste out of a tube in ages.
2. I absolutly do NOT advocate burying toilet paper. I do mention dropping some of the "natural toilet paper" in the cat hole, things like rocks and pine cones.
I have cleaned up other people's used toilet paper that I have found in the backcountry, and I burn that when I can. Sadly, I have burried some of that. I know a lot of park rangers, and this is part of their job, and it's awful. It's not my job, but I care so deepy about our wild lands, that I need to do it.
