Can a character be the author of their own author? > Likes and Comments

I’ve been thinking about recursive storytelling lately.

Imagine a structure like this:

* Writer A creates Writer B
* Writer B creates Writer C
* Writer C creates Writer A

No one exists outside the loop.

At that point, who is actually the author?

The person holding the pen?

The person being written?

Or does authorship stop meaning anything?

I’m curious how other readers feel about this kind of structure. Have you read novels that play with recursive authorship or metafiction in interesting ways?
