Teddy seems to have traded the chaos of rock stardom for a structured life at a stuffy law firm. Do you think a part of him always wanted that stability, or was it just a shield to hide from his past?
The description mentions that the band's remaining fans are in an obscure little town in Switzerland. How did you settle on Switzerland as the accidental stronghold for Tremble’s fanbase? It sounds like a hilarious detail!
This sounds like the exact mix of music and humor I love. Are there any official discussion guides or chapter questions we can look over to help us unpack Teddy’s journey as a community?
Thanks! It's a pleasure to be part of this community! Thanks for the question about music. Obviously it was very important to the story. I'm listening to music constantly - all genres! I suppose Tremble's hit was probably in the vein of Counting Crows or Gin Blossoms, or something anthemic like Semisonic's "Closing Time" - something mainstream enough to be a huge hit. The music industry has changed so much since I wrote Thank You, Goodnight, so I think maybe the "let's get the band back together" initiative might play out very differently. Less corporate, perhaps??
I love stories that weave music deeply into the plot. Did you listen to specific 90s rock playlists while outlining or writing the book to get into Teddy’s headspace?
