Donna Tar Scam? > Likes and Comments

Hi my partner has had an email from a Donna Tar saying they are an "Executive Organizer & Moderator" of this group. I was just wondering if this was genuine - it's an offer to make their book selected for reading.

I just went through the same thing. These start out as emails and have very complimentary A.I.ish praise and explanation. I got the same email as you did.

I put in a lot of work to come up with themes, photos, interviews, reviews, and study questions. I got a link to a discussion. I got several abstract questions. I answered. The people asking the questions had Goodreads profiles, but they were blank. I got a link to the discussion, and it shows up in my comments on my profile. But it doesn't show up on the group in Goodreads.

Then I got a request to buy a finished copy of the discussion and the material that I supplied. I’m not sure how the moderator would do better than what I had done. I refused.

I now have a second offer for a different group discussion (RW Rene Witherspoon's reading list) on Goodreads for another book. I spent the effort and sent the stuff. I figure no one can hurt me with that information. This “moderator” or “acquisition officer” has asked for a “donation” up front.

I’ve read that Goodreads has been open to fake reviews and discussions in the past.

I've tried to report to Goodreads, but can't figure out how. I tried to contact Donna Tarr, but I can't.

I used it. Got responses to fake people. But I paid nothing. Rob them of profit.
