CBC Moderator 2 3. How does Carrie Gress define the concept of the "Anti-Mary," and how does it differ from the traditional virtues embodied by the Virgin Mary? What examples from contemporary culture do you think best illustrate this contrast?

Modern woman has turned her back on the traditional meaning of being woman, wife and mother. Today's culture views a wife and mother as being beneath men and subjugated to the patriarchy. This is a social construct started by a personal dissatisfaction which was blamed on men and on religion. Women have a pivotal role in society: bringing forth and nurturing new generations.

As there is an anti-Christ movement, so there is an anti-Mary movement. Contraception and abortion destroys motherhood. Envy of men destroys families.

Marriage and motherhood are the non-negotiables of a pro-life culture.

The Holy Family has always been the most holy model of families for centuries. An anti-Mary culture destroys the familial unit and goes against God's plan for humanity.
