We lived in rural Oregon for 25 years and learned that many city people who no longer want their cats just bring them out to the country and say shoo! The cats don't last long unless they find a friendly farmer who needs barn cats. The coyotes enjoy them immensely.

My son in Arizona actually goes on bike rides armed with cat treats to feed the feral cats!
