also this is my 666th book on goodreads, which seems fitting
I agree. He was basically writing a Wodehouse-style romp, but then he tried to put in broken family relationships, but then they would get resolved in a paragraph or two, sort of in the way that things get resolved at the end of a comedy. It just didn't work.
