Loralee The review group is the most successful group for peer reviews on Goodreads. It hosts non-reciprocal reading/review rounds of ten authors with a variety of themes and genres, as well as ‘general’ rounds where any book is permitted, from non-fiction, to horror. When a round has ‘now forming’ in the title, there are places available, you can sign up. If it doesn’t, it’s full – look for another round or check back another time.

The founding principle of the group is honest, non-reciprocal reviews, so please help maintain the integrity of the group by letting me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group and do check back as the group fills to report any clashes. Usually places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

This is a 'Novella' round
Fiction and non-fiction, adult and children's books under 45,000 words accepted.

Please note it is always possible that the books you are assigned may contain material you find upsetting or offensive. If you can't commit to this, please do not sign up.

Communication & Contact Details

As Goodreads has disabled private messaging, participation in this round requires providing a contact email address via a Google Form (or an alternative method specified by the moderator). This email will be used by the moderator to resolve round-related issues and will be shared with other participants solely for the purpose of exchanging review copies. Email addresses must not be used for marketing or shared more widely. The form with all collected email addresses will be deleted once the round has closed. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not sign up for the round.

Any participant who knowingly uses the email addresses for marketing, or is caught selling them, will be blacklisted from the group.

If you’re uncomfortable with sharing email addresses, you’re encouraged to establish a new free Gmail or Yahoo account, to be used exclusively for Review Group.

Now for the boring stuff, but please read it, it saves a lot of time if everyone is on the same wavelength.

Before signing up below with your Goodreads author and Goodreads book link in the thread below, please ensure that:

1. You have enough time to read and review 4 books within the 12 weeks of time allowed.

2. Your book is currently available for sale on Amazon (not pre-order) and it complies with the individual round theme, if there is one.

3. Your book is written in English, or you can provide an English translation, and it is fit to be reviewed. If it is not, due to editing or other issues, you risk poor reviews. This is your problem, not that of the reviewers or the groups. The number one error new authors make is not having their book beta read and edited, by non-family members.

4. You can submit reviews to Goodreads and Amazon.
Amazon allows only those people who have spent $50 in the last year to leave reviews in each of their stores. If you are unsure about your Amazon reviewer status, try posting a ‘test’ review before signing up. If you are unable to post reviews on Amazon, please do not sign up.

5. You can provide (and accept) at least PDF files.
You are not expected or required to buy the books you are allocated to review, but as this will give a ‘Verified Purchase’ review on Amazon, it is welcomed when you choose to do so. Many authors have books available via KU and others might provide smashwords coupons. Most authors can provide mobi and/or epub files directly by email. Please note: International Copyright laws apply. You cannot sell, or give away material you have received without the author’s express permission.

6. You have completed your reading if you are currently in another review round in this group. You can be involved in the ‘one for one’ list whilst you are in a round.

7. You have an author profile set up before you join.

8. You agree to provide a contact email address when requested by the moderator. This is required in order to participate in a round and replaces the previous requirement for Goodreads private messaging. Emails must not be sold, or used for marketing purposes.

The link to the mod's email form will be in the next post.

9. You declare any relationship you have with another member in the round.
Amazon will not allow reviews from the same household on the same book or if you are an editor, relative or close friend of another member.

10. You agree to finish assigned books before leaving a review, that your reviews will be unbiased and honest, whatever the star rating, and based on your perception of the merits of the book not on whether you like the genre or not, and you will try to avoid ‘spoilers’. i.e. giving away the finale of a book. Please note the Review Group will back any reviewer's right to express their opinion about a book, but personal comments about a fellow author are against both Review Group and Goodreads policy. If you DNF* an assigned book, you run the risk of not being allowed into review rounds in the future.

11. You will not ask a fellow author to change a review of your book because you don’t agree with it.
If you think you have a legitimate concern, talk to the mod of your round, NOT the other author. Personal attacks, or pressurizing other members WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and will result in you being blacklisted.

12. You declare all Goodreads accounts when signing up for rounds, including all pen names and additional user accounts, so that these can be checked by moderators and other group members to ensure that there are not previous review conflicts.

13. Books which include AI-generated writing are not permitted. Reviews may not be written by AI.

Please note:
*We all want reviews, it’s why we joined the group. It is bad taste to expect other people to review your book and then not do the same for other people in the group. People that Do not Finish (DNF) and/or don’t post reviews will find it difficult to get into a subsequent group.

It is not necessary to leave any kind of disclaimer in your review. Reviews that state you received a copy ‘in return’ for a review will probably be removed/not allowed by amazon.com.

Your Goodreads details and the rounds you participate in may be recorded by the admin mod on a database. We do not retain details of email addresses after the round has closed.

Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate personal preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I will do my best to fit everyone into the group they request, but occasionally, particularly in the case of our more prolific good standing members, I may have to decline a member request to fit the maximum number of people into a particular round. I will always endeavour to start another round as soon as possible with that member in mind.

It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available.

If you need anything clarified please ask on the thread below before signing up. It’s a pain to have to keep rearranging the list because people haven’t read the above.

Your group moderator will be: TBA

1.Laura Koerber | Encounters with Old Coyote
2.
3.

5. Ann Birdgenaw |Black Hole Radio - Nebulus
6. David Alyn Gordon | Jigsaw: Temporal Apocalypse

Loralee You'll need to fill out this form before I can add you to the list in the first post: https://forms.gle/1agVLiMeQntnFLZ47

Please read the two important messages below before joining the round:

Message 1:
As you're aware, we no longer have the Direct Message feature on Goodreads. The mods have discussed the best way to go forward, and have determined that we will need an email address from everyone, which will be collected in an online form.

(Please refer to the revised Rule 8 above.)

If you'd like to join this round, please remember that I can't add you until I have links to your Goodreads book and your email address, provided in this form. For the sake of everyone's privacy, we're asking participants to list the email address on the form and not in the actual thread where it's visible to all online.

Message 2:
Also: Considering Amazon’s recent delay in posting reviews (it has taken more than three weeks to see some appear in previous groups), the moderators have been discussing a way to address the issue. We can’t do anything about Amazon’s policies, but if we have sufficient proof that you submitted a review to Amazon, we would like for you to be “checked off” and free to join a new review thread.

We’re asking everyone to take a screenshot of the Amazon page that appears when you post a review. It’s the page that says “Thank you for reviewing…” In that screenshot, please also include the bottom of the screen, as the right-hand corner will verify the date. (The date would need to be at least 2 weeks prior to you sending the screenshot to the moderator.) Save the screenshot somewhere on your computer where you can get to it again if needed. (If your review comes through before two weeks have passed, you can then delete the screenshot.)

This page only appears right after you post the review, so you’ll have to be mindful about catching it in time.

If the Amazon review isn’t up in two weeks, you can email the screenshot to the moderator and be cleared for the next round. If the review does post after that, we’d still appreciate you posting the link in that group’s review thread (as always, please post Amazon links in a new post instead of editing a previous post).

Ann Birdgenaw Hi loralee can I join with my new book black hole radio nebulis. I would have to he in yr blindspot

message 4: by Anna (new)

Anna Sinclaire HI Loralee - I'd like to join with my first Novella, The Proposition:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

The form is completed as requested. I don't have any conflicts.

message 5: by Loralee (last edited Jun 30, 2026 10:04PM) (new)

Loralee Ann, you were the first, so since I have read all your current books, I will be able to fit you in my blind spot.
J.R., I apologize but since both Ann and I have reviewed you, and she needs to stay in my blind spot, I won't be able to fit you.
Linda, I have also reviewed you. I was hoping to be able to fit you between me and Ann, but it looks like you have read all of Ann's available books. I apologize that I won't be able to fit you, either.

Anna, please claim your author profile here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
and then post again from that profile. If you have not reviewed or been reviewed by anyone on the list by then, I should be able to fit you.

message 6: by Loralee (new)

Loralee Stjepan, I really wish I could let you join, but since you’ve reviewed both me and Ann, and we have to stay in each other’s blind spots, I’m afraid you won’t fit. I’m so sorry!

message 7: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I'd like to join with Holey Ghosts. Loralee has read it but I have other books. I've read Anne's books but could review her book of poems.

message 8: by Loralee (last edited Jul 14, 2026 12:12PM) (new)

Loralee From what I saw, you haven't read all of Ann's books. I can see only four of them that you've read, and she has 6. I should be able to fit you, Laura, once you've fill out the form, but you'll need to offer a different book than Holey Ghosts. It is a bit more than 45,000 words. Since this is a novella round, please choose one of your books that is 45,000 words or less.

If I've read it already, and the only other options for me are books over 45,000, that's okay. But the book on the list needs to be a novella.

If I remember correctly, I think The Dog Thief was novella sized.

Please fill out the form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BUML...

Then post again to let me know you've done it, and also let me know what book you'd like to offer that is a novella.

message 9: by Loralee (last edited Jul 02, 2026 06:41PM) (new)

Loralee Ann, do you have a book of poems published? Checking your page just now to re-count your books and see how many Laura hadn't read, I saw a book titled Quick Stories and Poems, Volume 1. Are you a co-author on that? If so, I could move people around, and I might be able to fit JR, Linda, and Stjepan instead of leaving them out of the group. If it's a mistake, and that book doesn't belong there, let me know, and also contact Goodreads so it's not saying the book is partly yours if it isn't. If it is partly yours, but you don't have PDFs Mobis or Epubs because a co-author has all of that, let me know. We might be able to figure something out. I may just be completely confused, too!

Please let me know in the next couple of days, preferably by 5 July.

message 10: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber Lorilee, thank you for doing all that work checking things out. Dog Thief is a collection of short stories and one long story. A Mountain in the Air is three novellas and some people have read and reviewed just one. Encounters With Old Coyote is very short. I really don't care which book someone reviews.

message 11: by Loralee (new)

Loralee Thanks, for the reply, Laura. If it's okay with you, I'll put Encounters with Old Coyote as the book you're offering. I believe I've read that, so I'll need to read something else.
But I need to wait for just a bit to hopefully hear from Ann.

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber Great! Thank you!

message 13: by Ann (new)

Ann Birdgenaw Hi loralee. The book of poems only has an exerpt from one of my books, so I'd rather not have that reviewed. Another author compiled it.

message 14: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona Hi, can I join with my novel Snow This is my profile Bill Carmona I have reviewed Linda and Loralee. Thanks!

message 15: by Loralee (last edited Jul 03, 2026 07:54PM) (new)

Loralee Bill, Ann has also reviewed you, and will need to read another book besides Snow, but it looks like you've got at least one more book in English (I.C.U) . Please remember to list who has reviewed you, as well as whom you have reviewed.

Also, please make sure that the book you offer is 45,000 words or fewer.

It doesn't look like you've read or been read by Laura. I think I'll be able to fit you!

message 16: by Tony (last edited Jul 03, 2026 07:52PM) (new)

Tony Travis I have finished all reviews on the other group.

Season of the Stranger

Tony Travis

Would love to join.

Thanks.

-Tony

I have reviewed all three listed atm.

message 17: by Loralee (last edited Jul 03, 2026 08:06PM) (new)

Loralee Tony, you have not reviewed Ann. Ann, however, has reviewed you. If you had reviewed her, I would not have been able to fit you. As it is, it looks like you have reviewed Laura and me, and Ann has reviewed you, so you should be able to fit. You will need to review different books than what Laura and I have listed since you have read both of those. Ann has reviewed two of your books, neither of which is Season of the Stranger, so she should be able to review that.

Edit: Oh, and Bill, whom I just put on in the last few minutes, has reviewed Season of the Stranger, but since you have others for him to read, that should be fine.

message 18: by Loralee (last edited Jul 03, 2026 08:15PM) (new)

Loralee It looks like I was able to fit Laura, Bill, and Tony onto the list. Please everyone, as new people come on, check back and let me know if you have read or been read by any of them. It is a really big help.

Also, please make sure the books you are offering on the list are 45,000 words or less, since this is a novella round. If someone has read your offered book (for example, I have read Laura's book, Encounters with Old Coyote) and the only other books you can offer them have more words, that can't be helped. But the book on the list needs to be a novella.

message 19: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona Bill wrote: "Hi, can I join with my novel Snow This is my profile Bill Carmona I have reviewed Linda and Loralee. Thanks!"

I also reviewed Tony on that list.

message 20: by Loralee (last edited Jul 05, 2026 09:11AM) (new)

Loralee Yes, you did. Thanks for checking that, Bill. It looks like Tony has other books though, and you can read one of those.

message 21: by C.R. (new)

C.R. Hi Loralee,

I would like to join with Round the World: A Life of Jeanne Baret, part one or two. I have reviewed you and Laura. Ann has reviewed me.

Thanks, CR

message 22: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona Bill wrote: "Bill wrote: "Hi, can I join with my novel Snow This is my profile Bill Carmona I have reviewed Linda and Loralee. Thanks!"

I also reviewed Tony on that list."

And what about you? I reviewed you.

message 23: by Loralee (last edited Jul 05, 2026 03:36PM) (new)

Loralee Bill, I can't see where you've reviewed C.R. I've looked, but have not been able to see her name under the authors you've read. If you have reviewed C.R., will you post a link to a review for me? I can only see that you have reviewed me, Tony, and Laura.

C.R., please fill out this form first: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BUML...
then post here that you've completed the form.
Unless the group starts to fill super fast, I should be able to fit you once you've posted that the form is filled out. Even if Bill has reviewed you, you should fit.

message 24: by Anna (new)

Anna Sinclaire Hi Loralee,

Just responding to your email. I am very keen to be included.

I submitted a request to goodreads just after your post to claim my author profile (which I had totally forgotten to do prior so thank you for reminding me!).

I checked this morning and I think it's been finalised, so I'd love to join the round.

Kind regards,

Anna

Anna

message 25: by C.R. (new)

C.R. Hi Loralee,
I have the completed the form. I have no record of Bill having reviewed me.

message 26: by Loralee (new)

Loralee It looks like I was able to fit both Anna and C.R.

message 27: by C.R. (new)

C.R. Thanks, Loralee!

message 28: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona Loralee, so far, based on how the list is currently set up, only Ann has reviewed my work (this particular novel), and I've reviewed Tony's and yours (those books)

message 29: by Loralee (last edited Jul 06, 2026 10:07AM) (new)

Loralee You're right, Bill. That's my mistake. I checked, and you have not reviewed Laura, or been reviewed by her.

message 30: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona Bill wrote: "Loralee, so far, based on how the list is currently set up, only Ann has reviewed my work (this particular novel), and I've reviewed Tony's and yours (those books)"

How do you handle these cases? Do you skip the ones that have already been reviewed, move them to a different spot, or just remove them from the list?

message 31: by Loralee (last edited Jul 06, 2026 04:33PM) (new)

Loralee When someone who has read you before is assigned to read you again, they simply read another book that they haven't yet. Checking your list of books, you have at least 2 other books in English that Ann should be able to review, I.C.U, and Violent Times. Since Ann has already read Snow, you can discuss with her which one she would read and review this time.
For me and Tony, you would also read another book that you haven't yet. You have already read Felicity and the Raccoons, so I would send you another of my books. For Tony, you've already read Season of the Stranger, so you would decide with him which of his other books he'd want you to read next.

Once you've been in the group for a while, you'll see that this happens frequently.

message 32: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona Loralee wrote: "When someone who has read you before is assigned to read you again, they simply read another book that they haven't yet. Checking your list of books, you have at least 2 other books in English that..."

Ah, ok. Thanks.

message 33: by David (last edited Jul 09, 2026 11:54AM) (new)

David Gordon Hi Loralee. May I join with my newest and last in the Jigsaw Time Travel series: Temporal Apocalypse?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0H...

I do not see any conflicts. Anne and Laura have read me before but this is a new book, and the other writers that I have read all have additional material I can review. I filled out the form. Please advise, and take care.

message 34: by Loralee (last edited Jul 09, 2026 01:07PM) (new)

Loralee You've also reviewed me. In addition, you need to state the other names of the people whom you have reviewed.

It looks like you've also reviewed Bill Carmona and Tony Travis.

In addition, it appears that C.R. Hurst has also reviewed you.

I'm going to try to take myself out, and see if I can make a spot for you with the remaining conflicts. If I can, I still won't be able to add you until the book is on Goodreads. See below.

David, I wasn't able to find a book by that title under your name on Goodreads. It needs to be on both Goodreads and Amazon before I can add you.

message 35: by David (new)

David Gordon Hi Loralee.

CR, Anne B, and Laura have not read the latest book. I have reviewed Bill and Tony, but they, and you, have other works I can review. Anne S has not read me, and I have not read her. I will add the book to Goodreads and send over the link. Please advise and take care.

message 36: by David (new)

David Gordon Hi Loralee. Here is the link. Take care.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 37: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I see it, but it does not appear to be linked to your current profile. It would be a big help if it was connected to the profile from which you are posting, if you can.

message 38: by Loralee (last edited Jul 09, 2026 03:46PM) (new)

Loralee David, I have tried to fit you in, but even with taking myself out, I cannot see a way to fit you with the existing conflicts of the other participants the way they are. I wish that I could fit you in some way.

Edit: In the meantime, if there is some way to get your newest book onto your own profile, that would be a big help to both you and others. As it is, it is under a completely different profile. It does have your name, but it does not have any of your other information. Perhaps because "Mr" was added, which created another profile.

Here are some steps that might help get your new book on your own profile:

1. Find your new book. (The same as the link in your message above.)
2. Click on the name above it (your name, but with "Mr" as well.)

3. Find a link that says "Edit Details" or "Edit Data"

4. Find the page to edit your name, and type your name into the boxes (I believe there are three, and in one you have to do last name first) and type in your name without the Mr.

5. Go to the bottom and click "save".

6. If that does not move your new book to your profile, follow this link: https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...
and explain the problem to them.

message 39: by David (new)

David Gordon Thanks Loralee. Take care.

message 40: by S.D. (last edited Jul 10, 2026 08:58AM) (new)

S.D. Any chance I can fit in ? I've reviewed Ann
I've been reviewed by Loralee, CR and Laura.

I also write as Spike Brown

I'll filled out the form...
I'd like to join with my middle grade book
The Lake Quilt Mystery

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

message 41: by Loralee (last edited Jul 10, 2026 09:36AM) (new)

Loralee I think you just might, S.D. I'll need to read your very last book that I haven't read, but I think I'll be able to fit you. Let me check some things first.

Edit: Oh shoot, S.D. It looks like Ann reviewed one of your books as Spike Brown, Escape to Molokai. Since you've reviewed each other and you won't fit in her blind spot, I'm afraid I can't fit you in this round. I wish I could.

message 42: by S.D. (new)

S.D. Thanks for trying

message 43: by C.R. (new)

C.R. Hi Loralee,

I must withdraw my name for this round. My husband's health has taken a turn for the worse, and I am afraid I can't devote the time to reviews. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Best, CR

message 44: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I'm so sorry, CR! Best wishes to him, and to you!

message 45: by Loralee (new)

Loralee Because CR left the group, that made, according to my checks, a spot available for David. I have put him in and contacted him to make sure he is still interested.
Since I had to move a couple of people a little bit, please check again, and let me know if I messed up.
From all I saw, he should be good. But the more eyes that check, the better.

message 46: by David (new)

David Gordon Hi Loralee. I just emailed you. Yes I would like to join. Thank you for the opportunity. Take care.

message 47: by Laura (new)

Laura Koerber It looks good to me.

message 48: by Bill (new)

Bill Carmona David has already reviewed this book of mine. I should give him another one of mine, right?

message 49: by Loralee (new)

Loralee That’s correct.
