Liz For July we'll be reading literary adaptations, so that's books that have been successfully adapted for film or TV.

I currently have three knocking about: Mothering Sunday by Graham Swift, Black Narcissus by Rumer Godden and The Salt Path by Raynor Winn - the latter is a second-hand copy that I picked up before the scandal broke. Not sure I'll get through all of them!

I've also just finished Train Dreams by Denis Johnson, which I can highly recommend.

What will you be reading?

Oonagh Murray I'm reading Rebecca at the minute. I will squeeze it in here.

Liz I have just sailed through Graham Swift's Mothering Sunday and it's made it as my best book of the year so far, joining Persuasion: A Novel as the only books with 5 stars for me this year. In some ways it reminds me of Atonement - one day affecting a whole life. Beautifully written and highly recommended.

I just realised that of course both Atonement and Persuasion have been adapted for the screen, so would be eligible this month too!

Susie For this challenge, I'm reading The Running Man. Never seen the adaptations as they never appealed. Hoping I like the book!

Kate I've just finished reading The Miniaturist for the time traveller challenge and as it was made into a TV series it counts for this challenge too.
It was slow to get into but eventually picked up the pace. I can see why it was made into a TV series but I can't say I'm sorry I missed it.

Linda Ferguson Hi, I will continue the Laura Dave series book #2, which is titled: The Last Thing He Told Me and is on Appletv right now.

message 8: by Paul (new)

Paul Besley Has to be 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff for me.

message 9: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok I just finished The Other Bennet Sister, which fits conveniently into this category (though “literary” might be a stretch). Hoping to read North and South soon.

Liz I'm currently reading Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, which was made into a film in 2007 by Sean Penn. I read Into Thin Air, also by Jon Krakauer, last year. I enjoyed it very much - he writes well about the big outdoors - so I thought I'd give this one a go. Good so far...

There are quotes from Jack London throughout, which reminds me, I have never read The Call of the Wild. The to-read list just gets longer!
