So your comment about the reviews got me intrigued - none of the accounts have profile pictures, and all but one of them were created in June 2026... and all but one of them have only ever reviewed this author's books. I know GR has some shady stuff going on but this is the first time I've witnessed something quite so blatant.

Omg, I didn't delve that deep into the shady reviews but I'm not surprised, either! It definitely felt like either sock puppets or bought reviews just from how generic and similar they all were.

Yeah, they definitely read like ChatGPT was asked to say the same thing in 10 slightly different ways.

See, now I just feel old because AI is never my first thought about these sorts of things. You're probably right, though, two dozen AI-run author sock-puppets.

I dnf-ed about 10% in, it was very 'male power fantasy' rote-by-numbers and over-telling kind of self-published work. Also just very bland and unexciting for someone who reads in that genre a lot.
