Sarah Valentine During the war, Purdue University, in collaboration with RCA's cadette program, developed geranium rectifier diodes for use in radar equipment. Two diodes back to back function as a transistor. This is a bit of a mouthful, and since this book is for a general audience, I cut to the chase. You can learn more about this project in Purdue's physics and engineering archives. Check out the work of Karl Lark-Horovitz.
