Raymond Elmo Long ago, I read only fantasy. If a book didn't have elves or torches or vampires or at least knights and swords, - i assumed it was a pretentious narrative of beige lives suitable for beige souls.
'The Old Man and The Sea' is when I grew up in my literary tastes. The book was stark as the skeleton of a fish; and yet magical in conveying a sense of time and world and struggle equal to anything in Fantasyland.

Patrick Raymond, beautifully said! I remember for a long time I too mainly focused on all things fantasy, and while I can’t remember which exact book it was that made me realize there’s more to just staying in one lane, I know that I am completely grateful to that book, because there can be a little magic in anything and/or everything!
