I stepped back from this thread as I've already been fortunate enough to have one of my books as a book-of-the-month in the group, but if everyone's going to be all shy then I'll be the first weirdo on the dancefloor, so to speak. ;)The first book in my "Brackenford Cycle" series is Location, Location, Damnation. It's urban fantasy with a humorous slant, set in the UK.
"Trev Irwin didn’t believe in ghosts, which made it something of a shock when he saw one."
Working as an estate agent in the town of Brackenford isn’t the hardest job in the world – just ask Trev Irwin. He knows the market inside out, house prices are steady, and the only competition in the office is Barry, who has all the wit and charm of a mouth ulcer.
But there are other forces at work in Brackenford besides the unquenchable desire of grannies to buy bungalows, as Trev discovers when he witnesses a shadowy entity possess a man in a local café. A man who goes straight home and murders his wife and her lover. With a cricket bat.
A lifelong sceptic of the paranormal, Trev is still trying to rationalise these events when he discovers that his own grandfather is rather more than the curmudgeonly whisky-enthusiast he appears to be. The old man is also Brackenford’s Custodian, a role which requires him to keep the peace among the town’s supernatural residents, and he believes that Trev can help him.
Trev disagrees; but when he inadvertently foils an assassination attempt on Brackenford’s most famous resident, the slick supermarket tycoon Alastair Kolley, he finds that he’s upgraded his status from “potential collateral damage” to “target” in the eyes of the bad guys. But who are the bad guys? Is it the tabloid-reading ghouls who live in the sewers? The werewolf self-help group that meets in the church hall? Or the local lord of the manor, who looks pretty sprightly for a man who’s over 150 years old? Trev hasn’t a clue, and the only help he’s got comes from a septuagenarian, a puritanical Victorian ghost, and the world’s most sarcastic cat.
Yep – he’s basically screwed.
After three drinks, I'll join you on the dance floor. Gimme some room to work. :-)I write dark urban fantasy. Here's my trailer, and my link.

Hello! My name is Andree' Robinson-Neal (A. R. Neal on Goodreads writer's page!) and I am the review editor for Urban Fantasy Magazine. If you are interested in writing reviews of the great books you are reading, send me a couple samples of reviews or similar writing. Let's talk!

Amanda, I didn't know you had a book out.

There is an amazing amount of fun to be had in landing a skeptic in a situation they have no rational explanation for. Fortunately I think the fallen angel stalking the main character through her dreams and out onto the streets of London probably moves the book mostly out of the humour category. Losing it is a Urban Fantasy novel set in modern day London, where no one believes in Fairies or that gods read New Scientist.
Kate Winters is more than ready to chalk up the sudden invasion of trolls and knife wielding pixies to an inconveniently timed mental breakdown, after all with a serial killer on the loose it’s not as if London is short of real monsters.
Still reeling from the loss of her husband and a long way from her home in San Francisco, Kate doesn’t have any plans beyond just getting by but there are some things you can’t walk away from and some mysteries that can only be solved at a cost. In over her head she soon finds out that the only way to get yourself in to more trouble than ignoring what is right in front of your face, is not to.
This isn’t like in the fairy tales, the Incubus has emotional issues, the only angel in the picture isn’t entirely sure that she counts as one of God’s children, the nuns aren't vindictive and nightmares can come to life.
It’s discounted to $0.99 this January.

Thanks Sabine,
It’s my first novel and it turns out writing is the easy part, as well as the fun part; who knew. Describing myself as clueless would be an understatement.
Anyway I hope the book lives up to the blurb. Any advice, criticisms, verbal slaps around the head would be most welcome.
Excellent, I love verbally slapping people. *KIDDING* I'm more into hug fests. I've got my debut out as well. It's a learning curve all right. I love doing beta reads when I have the time. Happy to provide feedback when I get to it. The sample I read was great. Hey, DM me and I'll give you a shout out on my blog.

Losing it – A Urban Fantasy Novel by Elizabeth Armstronghttp://www.amazon.com/Losing-Elizabet...
Kate Winters is more than ready to chalk up the sudden invasion of trolls and knife wielding pixies to an inconveniently timed mental breakdown, after all with a serial killer on the loose it’s not as if London is short of real monsters.
Still reeling from the loss of her husband and a long way from her home in San Francisco, Kate doesn’t have any plans beyond just getting by until a misguided attempt to help a young girl with her own apparent mental health issues leaves her standing between a murder suspect and the police. Nothing is what it seems as she is forced to learn the difference between murder and sacrifice.
Now she’s living in a world where a Seer’s prophesy is unbreakable and demons stalk the shadows waiting to rip through the veil that divides the worlds. This isn’t like in the fairy tales, the Incubus has emotional issues, the only angel in the picture isn’t entirely sure that she counts as one of God’s children, the nuns aren't vindictive and nightmares can come to life.

Here is a poem about my books. It's called Full Moon Bloodlust.
When the moonlight strikes me, I am filled with power. In an evil age, in my darkest hour. Death and Destruction are the pleasures of my life. A lonely life filled with agony. Here I stand upon this Ledge with sword in hand I hereby pledge. That in the full moon's waning light. I shall make my Sacrifice. The Fog drifts down the hills into my dark domain. My senses sharp and I Insane. Into the woods I go with the moonlight as my guide. I now creep like the mist and from my wrath you can not hide. I shall avenge all I have lost. Behold the coming of death with your now ending immortal life. I shall make my sacrifice. Unto the goddess of the night. I shall make my sacrifice.

Hi Everyone!I'm excited to announce that my first book, Dead and Kicking, is now available for pre-order at all the major online retailers (Amazon, Kobo, Nook, Apple).
I hope to unveil the cover in the next couple of weeks.
Dead and Kicking
The first book in the Harry Russo Diaries, Dead and Kicking follows the exploits of Angharad "Harry" Russo, a witch with an extraordinary gift. Tangled up in a murder mystery, she finds herself butting heads with Cian Nash, the sexy yet aggravating, alpha male police detective. There's plenty of supernatural mayhem for die-hard paranormal fans: werewolves, vampires, witches, even zombies. Although part of a trilogy, each instalment is a stand-alone story. This series is intended for a mature audience.
I hope you'll order your copy today!
Hi! My name's Jimmie, and I'm a writer. I'm new to the group. Urban Fantasy is my all-time favorite genre. Jim Butcher is my FAV! But I'm also into L K Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Kim Harrison, Tanya Huff, J R Ward and a few others. I'm having a bit of conundrum, and I was hoping to get some advice... My writing falls somewhere in between genres, and I can't decide how to classify it.
My dialog, plot, and characters are all firmly Urban Fantasy.
It's written in first person, and my main character is a mischievous, magic-using, no-nonsense tough chic on the hunt for a magical saboteur. The main plot is split between a hot-and-heavy romance, and a who-dun-it mystery, and (except for a sex scene in the woods) it takes place entirely within the city limits...
However...
That city is called Salanmar. It's located in the Kingdom of Undria, and my main character is betrothed (unwillingly) to a prince. She also lives in a castle...
It's not epic/high fantasy, despite the mythical setting, but because of that mythical setting, I'm not sure that it qualifies as an urban fantasy either...
Help?
If anyone has any insights about the genre classification, I'd love to hear it.
The first two volumes in the series are free on Amazon today if you want to take a closer look.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I can't wait to chat wizards, shifters, and vampires with you guys!

Hi everyone,My name is Nadia and I write as N.J. Ember. My first paranormal book was released a few days ago and in case you're interested, the ebook is only $0.99 cents. Here’s a couple of cherry-picked quotes from the first reviews:
“…a journey through a psychedelic drug induced dream sequence; almost new age Monty Pythonesque”.
“The Miracle Adjuster exists in an Orwellian fantasy world full of off-beat characters, situations and humour. The writing style is excellent; the imagination is fantastic and it’s a very clever novel”.

I just published Conflict,
the first book in my Sin City Supernatural series, last week and am working on finishing the cover and formatting of a spin-off novella now...while also working on writing book two.Description:
Blood generally only means one thing to vampires - dinnertime. Not true for Vivien di Rossi, vampire ruler of Nevada. For her blood means family first, from her children right down to her closest friends.
Life has been blissfully quiet in Las Vegas but that sort of thing rarely lasts, especially when you run the supernatural side of an entire state. Vivien finds out The Mortal Conflicts are scheduled to happen right under her nose. The Conflicts are an underground, Vamp Consul-approved battle to the death, and she's already lost one child to the twisted games. She devises a plan to kick them out of her territory for good, with a bit of help from her loved ones. Unfortunately, as if the impending arrival of some of her most daunting enemies wasn't enough, her youngest - perpetual teenager Lily - has gone missing. How will she prioritize one of the things she hates most in the world against one of the people she loves most?

Giveaway! or should I say "shameless self-promotion"?In an attempt to get the word out about my debut novel, Missing: A Mason Gray Case, I'm offering to send an epub or .mobi to the first 3 people who respond. All I ask is that you rate and review it honestly. If you like it, all that much better.
Here's the blurb:
When private investigator and former Chicago Police detective, Mason Gray, finds a dead man in his living room, he knows his career is on the line... again.
Booted from the department several years ago, his former coworkers would pounce on the opportunity to put him in the clink. To clear his name, he needs to find the real killer before the cops can pin it on him. Then he discovers that his computer has been hacked and certain files have been deleted: ones pertaining to a missing woman. He makes a connection between the two cases and realizes they are inextricably linked. It’s the sort of puzzle he aches to solve. But in pursuing them both he learns there’s more at stake than just his job. Those responsible for the mysterious kidnapping want him dead. To survive, Gray must find them before they succeed. But the decked is stacked against him. The police are corrupt, he’s being chased by an assassin, and he learns that the monsters of legend might actually be real. To solve this case, he must choose to step through the looking glass, wrestle with demons both figurative and literal, and- of course- save the girl.

Hi William,If you have a book on Amazon it will automatically sync with Goodreads after a couple of days.
If you have uploaded a preview yourself (e.g .pdf) it may be blocking the autosync.
I would remove your own preview and allow the autosync to happen.
Hello all,Been shyly reading post for couple of days, seeing if I or my book will fit in.
My first indie publish book is A Ghost of a Chance what I affectionately call Paranormal Noir. Out both in Kindle (select) and paperback editions.
Back cover blurb:
We’re all born with some amount of luck. Once you’ve used it up, you better have a grasp on how the world works or you might as well be dead. Except if you’re a ghost whore like Anthony. The spectral-kind are no more than astral luck, feeding off the emotions of the living. With a little motel room or back alley action, Anthony gets them ghosts to give up their mind exploding wad of chance. Easy-peasy.
Anthony’s life is smooth for a good-looking gay fellow; Ghost’s made it a little lonely but that’s all right. Until he witnesses a murder, and his mad friend is implicated. Worse the newly made ghost haunts Anthony to find the murderer.
Why won’t these stupid ghosts just spill their luck and leave Anthony alone?
----
Even though Anthony is gay, I don't feel this is a driving point in the book though he is always looking to fall in love with a living body. Most sexual situations are innuendo and mostly with ghosts. There is quite a bit of swearing.
Amazon has a preview chapter and I have Chapter 2 up on Goodreads with an Author blog Andrew Ahn. Been writing seriously for over 20 years. I have over a hundred rejection on my resume (what does that say about my writing-eek). Been a first reader for some great authors. And with encouragement I decided to take the Indie plunge... and made every mistake I can and not seeming to learn my lessons still making them.
You can also check out Anthon Angeli (my protagonist) and I on facebook: www.facebook.com/AnthonyA.Angeli to see if his stories might be intriguing to you:)
Thank you for this wonderful forum.
