Yes. I also get the feeling that religious people are happier than I am.
I had a dream a while back where I was alone within a 19th century mansion with some odd, 'M.C. Escher,' geometry going on with the stairs. In the main room, a massive ornate mirror dominated a wall without reflecting me.
A telekinetic force as inexorable as gravity took hold of me and pulled me toward the mirror, and I was filled with terror - absolutely horror struck.
I had to pull away from the mirror and I tried with everything I had to resist the mirror's pull, and yet ... step by step ... I came closer...
I screamed, "No! No! No!" with every step.
Then I woke up.
I sat up, threw back the sheets and paced the house until I calmed down.
I'm not joking. This really happened.
I've had some fearful moments in my life. I don't like heights or tight, closed in spaces, and I've had my share of worries and concerns for loved ones when they are at risk, but this was of a different order altogether.
I conclude that I'm terrified of interdimensional portals opening onto a hellscape.
... or loss of agency before the unknown ...
😱😊
