Rose Rosetree Incidentally, I know I've used some terms in this review that may not be familiar even to the most widely read Goodreaders; for instance, The Age of Awakening and the Shift, etc.

Over at my author page you can find "Seeking Enlightenment in the Age of Awakening"... and it can potentially help you with more than understanding some technical terms in this little book review.

Rose Rosetree Nearly three years have passed since I wrote this review.

Moving ever more fully into The Age of Awakening, I'm not finding the occasional hexagram reading helpful.

So much of the imagery is about nature. Then there's all the emphasis on harmony and waiting. Not my style, living in this "Second Consciousness Era on Earth." (Google that, including quotations, to find an article about that.)

Rose Rosetree Back in the Age of Faith, let's face it. People were slow growers.

Moreover, the concept of PERSONHOOD wasn't even developed until the 20th century.

When I first bought my copy of the I Ching, I believed it was cool, and it might even offer me much-needed wisdom. Now? It's only a sentimental space-holder on my bookshelf.

How do you other Goodreaders feel now about this classic?

Jonathan K (Max Outlier) If you enjoy Eastern wisdom, I'd recommend you add In Harmony with the Tao though Lao Tzu's verses are guides rather than symbols used for prediction

Rose Rosetree You sound knowledgeable, Jonathan. 🙂

Fact is I am not so interested, these days, in ancient wisdom from either the East or the West. I'm among those who are downright fascinated by what has happened since the Shift into the Age of Awakening. (Dec. 21, 2012.)

You can find some of my books about this here on Goodreads. I especially recommend--to those with an interest--"Seeking Enlightenment in the Age of Awakening."

Rose Rosetree Also, Jonathan, if we're getting to know each other here on Goodreads, I'm not interested in predictions. No psychic work for me, for instance.

I read the I Ching because, to me, it provided spiritual commentaries, perhaps what you might mean by "guides."

Thanks for sharing your recommendation here.
