I'm so glad I read this a full year after my own surgery because holy f*** that post surgery self-aversion and fear is so real! I loved this so much! Is Hunter meant to be autistic, or did I just interpret the hand flapping and sensory overwhelm through my own autistic lens?

Haha thank you, Sue! I did write Hunter as autistic based on my own mannerisms and such, but I wasn't/am not formally diagnosed, and at the time of writing the story I didn't feel confident enough to put it more explicitly into the text. Thrilled that you picked up on it though! <3
Awww, yeah, one of us! One of us! Self-identification is super valid! I'm a autistic therapist, so I've spent a lot of time debating pros and cons with clients, and it's almost always turned out to be autism when the self-IDed folks go in for the eval. There's lots of reasons we tgnc autistics might not want a formal autism diagnosis in their dossiers, though! I do know a couple trans friendly places in the Chicagoland area, though, if are still in the area and ever need a recommendation!
