This is a pretty insightful review. I think often people, I’m projecting here, don’t realise the roots of their trauma or explanations for their feelings or behaviours until years or even decades later; sometimes never at all. At his time of writing, certain parts of his life probably felt more significant than others. That may have changed before or since. I often think that, with autobiographies, the moment at which they are written is a big factor that affects what if included or omitted. I enjoyed this book. Many times over the decades I’ve enjoyed Mike’s music, I’ve been left wondering what motivated the different songs/pieces/albums. The mystery is all part of the enjoyment I think. The listener plays a big part as well as the artists, making repeated listening all the more enjoyable.

From all the interviews I've seen and read, he doesn't seem to have any strong feelings about anything. His music has no agenda. No deeper intentions. It's pure creativity. That's refreshing. His autobiography confirms that he is not reflective or retrospective. He doesn't even have strong opinions regarding his own work. I can't say if he doesn't remember the turmoil of his later Virgin years, or if he simply has forgotten them, but it's clear he doesn't think of those times.

he was exceptionally lucky, and I think he knows it.
