One of my favourite books of all time.

I'm sorry, Robert. It always irks me when someone disses my faves on Goodreads (and I'm an "easy grader--check out my feed), but I really disliked the treatment of Edith's character in this novel. While I do think the book reveals the damaging nature of Stoner and Edith's culture and time, I just felt Stoner came across as self-righteous and covertly pompous.
