Jackson! Tell me how it is when you're done so I know if I should read it or not!
Hey pal! I went ahead and DNF'd it around Page 90. There was some creativity that pushed me to keep going but overall (even as a certified edgy boy) I found most of the jokes cringe and action like reading a spreadsheet. I'd say you're probably fine to skip.
Bit disappointing really, I'm trying to give more indie and self pub stuff a fair shake :(
Legit. My request from the library came before I cancelled it so I ended up reading it. It's mostly Family Guy humor mixed with light novel trappings. Weirdly, it takes none of the best elements of light novels--breezy pacing, well structured hero journey stories, building larger arc while maintaining smaller arcs, etc--though. Also the ending is weird in that it just stops. Like I get that it was written to be episodic, but you still need an arc of some kind.
Yeah Family Guy is definitely the word for it, the cheevo blasts felt like legit cutaway manatee gags and not only were there so many, when they did show up there were so many at once!
I feel like you've identified the point of the book, and it still sailed over your head. There's some "problematic" descriptions in the first book but the entire game is designed to paradoy human culture and beam it across the universe for entertainment. It isn't to entertain humans from Earth, which, presumably, you are.
Yeah, I get that, it just isn't for me I think
