Stacy, as much as you hated Across the Net, I laughed my sides off reading your review. And I laughed just as hard reading this review. I didn't laugh in terms of how you viewed my writing and the characters, but your reviews are VERY entertaining! I love your passion for the books you read. My lord! Across the Net was the first book I ever wrote. I do feel like my writing improved between Across the Net and Painted Return. Andre was never intended to be a "dickwad". In fact, if anything, he was intended to be the more sensitive of the two of them. It is very interesting to me that his character hit you that way and I will need to think about that. I have a feeling that you may become a Phoenix Vale fan after Coached Hearts. Either way, I'm a Stacy fan! :-)
Omg- not only did he cheat, but it was unprotected? Ugh. That makes it so much worse. And not just cheating with one person, but two?! Idk if I can stomach reading the second book. I want to throw up after reading your review. Do people who cheat really deserve a second chance? Is that the message here? That even the most despicable mistakes deserve redemption? Cheating is a form of abuse, maybe even worse than physical harm because the mind can be so much harder to mend. This is an interesting trope and I recognize the hypocrisy of the romance industry that is completely okay with cheating in books when it’s not directly between the main characters, but then as soon as it’s between the main characters, it’s suddenly not okay. Ugh. Idk. I’ll have to think about if I really want to put myself through this.
