Can I ask you something about the parallels.. you refering to actual fascists states like those under Mussolini, Hitler or Franco or is this a book about nowadays us politics? Not being American I kind don't want to read another book about what America's Trump
Hey 😊 so when I suggested similarities to extreme sentiments found in reality, I wasn’t particularly referring to a singular place or time in history. It’s extreme ideologies you’ll find anywhere, regarding marginalised groups, protected characteristics, class divides and opinions on individuality. Even from the most progressive places to the least, there’ll always be voices to express such regressive opinions which are made a reality in Infinite State.
However, the Decurian Empire does appear to be written like a totalitarian government, very Orwellian and bears similarities to the states you have mentioned. Especially regarding propaganda, suppression, manipulation of truth ect. There’s a lot happening in the book, so I’d recommend you give it a go! 😊 These are just my opinions and I enjoyed the human psychology aspect and haven’t really gone into politics in my review; which admittedly isn’t my strongest suit either. But it defo exists and if it’s something you’re after, I think you’ll like this novel.

I had not realized Swan writes SF in addition to fantasy. I need to get my hands on the third book in his Great Silence trilogy in order to learn how that ends. And to think I am also going to explore this writer's take on SF too. Wow.
Defo give it a go, I found it as enjoyable as his fantasy! I’m just trying to finish up Empire of the Wolf, but I really wanna read The Great Silence, it looks great.
