I am the author. Thank you for your feedback. The intent of the book is to provide a detailed view (and understanding) of the many tools to make wine, and you do not need any of them if you prefer a minimalist approach. HOWEVER, those tools can help you improve your winemaking and wine (and not aiming to make mainstream wines) and MORE IMPORTANT, help you avoid mistakes and guide you in resolving problems. Cheers!
