My name is Thomas Cannon, I thought my main character, Mikey Haskell, in Shattered: A Novel, was unique. Not singularly. Because I am sure I was influenced by by Maragaret Atwood’s novel Surfacing. I am just remembering the beginning of writing this novel now. I wanted a character that stripped away all of his emotions. Which is madness and of course tends toward not wanting to be a human anymore. Becoming animal like goes hand in hand with that and Atwood (like she always does) showed me the way this was possible to write. So I was surprised that Tumbleweed Books has several books that deal with this idea. They are all unique and diverse, but I think my novel fits well with theirs. For example, I Animal by Kevin Del Principe. The Girl Behind the Glass by Emilio Iasiello is not about transforming into a being, but is about wearing masks to hide the main character’s humanity and I think that still fits in my eyes.
Does anyone know of other books about falling into a pyschosis where someone believes they are transforming into an animal.
