Jenny My friend from work and I were just talking about this novel today! Diana Wynne Jones is one of his favorite writers of all time. I have never read her, but I am looking forward to it and now even more after your recommendation. Also, Mark, I know you are very busy, but I am planning on teaching a fantasy writing workshop in a couple of weeks and as you are a wonderful expert on the subject, do you have any favorite words of wisdom I could pass along to my students on your behalf? We would all be very honored for any advice.

Jenny Those are fantastic Mark! I will read them aloud to the workshop and give them the link. Thank you! 😊

Yents I think you’re spot on. With this series, still have to read this book though (gonna start today probably).
I think it’s quite impossible to have a book that’s as good as the first one because the world was new and she was forced kind of to write about it to explain everything.
I don’t think she explains the world good enough in the second book, and I think that might be because of cultural distance, you have that kind of thing a lot when writers write books in cultures that they’re not part of.

Common I just have to say I requested to be your friend because of your reviews on these novels. I though, “this guy probably has some good recommendations!” Then I learned that you’re also an author and now I’m super excited to read Red Sister. Thanks for the recommendation! Lol 😆

J Jayde I don't normally comment, but I just want to say: please don't ever feel like you should justify reading to your older kids! Studies show that refusing to read to your children because they can read it themselves can significantly hinder their progress in learning language, specifically grammar and advanced vocabulary.
