The writing is not great but the story is heartfelt. The message of kindness is strong.
Maybe another time. I think of Theo often. A heartfelt kindness prevailed through the whole book.
Im struggling about 30% in so far.
I completely understand why you gave up on it. It's just too boring in the middle of the book. The last 75 pages are really good! It's too bad there is no clue during the rest of the book.

I love YOUR writing! It surprises me that this book didn’t draw you in. It is absolutely gorgeous as it inspires one to LIVE intentionally with PEOPLE in mind. Perhaps in another season you’ll try again. The way the author wrapped up the story was just beautiful. ♥️

Thank you. It was one of those books where it seemed everyone was reading and raved about. But when I read the synopsis, it didn’t sound interesting. I’ll take it off my list
I recommend you pick the book up again and read through page 100, where the purpose is revealed.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I slogged my way through over 50% of the book because I read the 2nd half was better.
I didn’t love it but glad I stuck with it until the end. The second half of the book was better.
Go back to it sometime!!! It is such a lovely story. Every man should be a Theo!
Would love to know whether, if you’d seen it through, you might have had a different opinion! I was grateful for those who thought it started off slow and/or confusing, but then found it delightful!
I also was going to give up early on, but it was selected by my book club so I kept going. I am so glad I did! Like others have commented, the ending brings it all together in such a beautiful way.
So when I decided I there were so many other books I wanted to read and I was so underwhelmed by this one, especially all the hype, I asked Gemini if there were other readers like me who didn’t fall in love with it and it answered that I wasn’t alone. I asked why so many people DID
love it, and it said that it is because of the ending; everyone who loves it seems to be enthralled by it. So I asked it for the ending. I’m glad I know how it all wrapped up but it honestly didn’t convince me to give it another try. Besides I had already given it to somebody who really wanted to read it. I’m okay with how I landed with this one, but again I’m very glad for all the people who’ve been changed for the better for having read it.
I'm with you, Susan. I was an outlier as well. I love the author's personal story to publication more than this book. I love that so many people have connected with it, but I wasn't one of them.
