She got on my nerves too, but I think parts of her behavior were realistic for an emotionally abused wife. Even today -- never mind in 1941 when women had far fewer socially acceptable options -- there's a lot that we don't fully understand about victims of domestic abuse. Common reactions are -- Why doesn't she just leave him? Why on earth did she go back to him? Why won't she press charges?
OMG right?? I hated her. I was rooting for the bad guys in this one lol
