What makes a trilogy truly satisfying: each book standing on its own, or the final book making the first two feel deeper in retrospect?
I’m especially curious about middle books. Do you prefer them to escalate the action, complicate the mystery, deepen the characters, or deliberately leave you unsettled before the conclusion?
For me, the best trilogies don’t simply continue the story. They reframe what came before, so that by the end, earlier scenes carry entirely new meaning.
What trilogy did that best for you, and which one lost you along the way?
