Maybe creating a separate area for discussing rumors or whatnot about a book you haven’t read? I don’t know. But a separate section for gossip might work. We’ll call it GoodGossip.
I also completely agree. Can't believe how many vicious comments are on here from trolls who clearly haven't read the book yet are uncannily mirroring the more vicious characters in it.
Why would anyone read a book about an author throwing a pity party for herself because she is a raging transphobe? I will not sit through over a thousand pages of transphobia

Why would anyone read a book about Islam if they don’t believe it? Or Christianity? Or atheism? Or XYZ? There are millions of books I wouldn’t read. Millions. I don’t use Goodreads to rate books I haven’t read. Full stop.
I'm pretty sure you can flag reviews, btw. Goodreads has done this before with a different author and removed reviews that didn't have any indication of the reviewer having read it. :)

I did my fair share of flagging. It’s easy when the reviewer openly states they gave a book one star without reading it. However, maybe Goodreads should automate the system. Just like we can’t post sexual content on TikTok without it being almost immediately flagged and removed, you shouldn’t be able to rate books you explicitly confessed to not having read.
Besides, it’s not my job to police or babysit kids who throw tantrums on Goodreads.
I'll just say that that could be something they do eventually. Goodreads is owned by amazon, as far as I know, which already is pretty good about removing review bombs. That said, Tiktok's system is absolutely horrible since it will remove things that aren't sexual in nature at all, while keeping up blatantly sexual acts. Also, imagine how messy that would get to have your review removed because of keywords. There ARE legitimate reasons to say "didn't read" in a review. Many of them. It would require a mod to look over every review that had these keywords.
I wasn't suggesting that you should. There are multiple people who have complained about this issue (and others of this nature) and there is already a system in place to take care of it. We are all responsible for the community because we are a part of it. There are not enough moderators to pore over every review so it IS our job to moderate our own community even if that's just by flagging something that goes against the rules. If you don't wish to, don't.
edit: I see that this is a misunderstanding. I meant to specifically reply to Mirhanda since she mentioned having a means to flag these.

I didn't realize that until reading your post. I also realized you can report entire accounts for inappropriate conduct. Oh I'm going to be so busy today! I've already seen two bans!

Thank you for this. Also, since Goodreads is owned by Amazon, they should be able to hire a couple more moderators, wouldn't you think? It's not like they're hurting for money haha! Still, I'm doing my part! I've already seen two account bans since you mentioned how you can report reviews!
I think it's because moderators aren't actively looking through reviews. I imagine they go mainly off of reports (hence why it's so important that we flag things that are against the rules of conduct when we see them!) That said, goodreads mods seem to be pretty good about this; I've seen at least two instances where they cracked down on it. Ratings will probably be skewed for a few days, but it should level out to normal.
I just reported the commenter (not the reviewer) whose username spoils the ending of the book. Please also report them by clicking on the 3 dots next to their comment, select “other” for your reason for reporting, and explain that their username and comments are spoiling the ending of the book. Hopefully Goodreads will remove their account and all comments.
Although this latest Strike book is kind of an antidote to online trolls isn't it??? Don't get too worked up. Life exists offline too.
