Katya Dunko Hi Theresa, thank you for the review! I appreciate you taking the time to sit with my story. I understand that there may seem to be some inconsistencies, as so much needed to be taken out throughout the editing process for length purposes. I think I wrote almost twice as much as I ultimately published.

My life was very chaotic and impulsive—a telltale sign of a closet addict. I wanted my writing in the early days to reflect my mental state at the time, and by the end, the clarity I had gained.

Going back to Egypt was a hard pill for me to swallow, but Amir was the only one who could help me at that point. When one thing stacks upon another, survival can make people do the unthinkable. I was well aware of how horrible that country was; I had been there just months prior. But, as I wrote: beggars can’t be choosers.
