Such a gracious and kind way of stating the troubles with this book! I also read it the first time as a younger person and didn't pick up on what Angel would have actually needed for healing. It's great that we see that now, though, right? I think newer generations have learned a lot more about compassion and mental/emotional health than previous ones and I'm thankful for that!
I think the issues that you had with it this time are some of the reasons I like the Masterpiece better. I’ve said before, to me, The Masterpiece actually does what Redeeming Love was attempting to do. I think so much of Redeeming Love was meant to be portray allegory that you have to suspend belief on a lot of things. My biggest issue when I read it was how Michael marries her because he feels like God told him to, yet he immediately “loves” her. At times his choices and decisions didn’t make sense IMO. Like how can you love someone you don’t even know yet? It would be a gradual process, I think. I love how The Masterpiece has the characters focus on the their individual relationships with God before their personal one.
YES - I 100% agree, definitely prefer The Masterpiece and look forward to rereading it!!
