I have to say, I'm a pantser. That's why I have difficulty sticking with a single genre.
My most elaborate (and probably my favorite) book is "Blood Spirit," which is 628 pages long. It started with a scene that flashed into my mind of a black Sheriff's deputy at the scene of a murder in an RV park. I knew his name and knew that the name of his superior was named Klass. I wrote up the scenario and forgot about it for two years or so. One day, I dug it out and started writing. By the time I was done, the work involved a vampire brought back from the dead, an alternative set of worlds in which my characters had alternative identities, an attack on a small Florida county by a vengeful spirit, a BDSM relationship, and a takeover of the whole county by a bungling US government agency - all while the 2012 Republican National Convention is going on in nearby Tampa.
