“Beyond Green Eyes: The Day I Died: The Life I Began” - Steven Vine

Steven, at age 49 had an abdominal aortic aneurysm, went instantly blind, having his right above the knee amputated, lives with an ostomy bag and chronic pain due to double pinched femoral nerve.

Just shy of turning 60 he wrote this book and currently the host of his own podcast.

My opinion……
No other book has made me fell like what it could be to, “walk a,‘similar mile,’ in someone else’s shoes.”

I read It's All in Your Head by Sabina Nordqvist on vacation and LOVED it! It's a romance starring two disabled characters, and tackles ableism really adeptly. One of the characters has Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, POTS, and stenosis, and the other has spinal injuries and uses a cane and sometimes a wheelchair.

Last night I also finished another 5-star read for me centering disability. Hello Sunshine by Keezy Young is a smartly written horror graphic novel about schizophrenia. I loved it, and will be thinking about it for quite some time.

I am autistic, and my books all have neurodivergent protags. GOOD DIFFERENT is about an autistic girl learning to self-advocate through writing poems. PERFECT ENOUGH is about facing autistic burnout and learning you're a spoonie, and figuring out how to work with your needs. NOT YOUR STORY has two autistic protags and comes out in 2027. THE GIRL IN THE WALLS is a speculative story on generational trauma and neurodivergence in families.

I loved Good Different and The Girl in the Walls! I have a copy of Perfect Enough, but haven't read it yet. :)
