That's always the risk with trilogy etc., to read them immediately one after the other or not. I read/listen to a lot of the Golden Age of Crime books (Christie, Marsh, Sayer etc) and I have a golden rule of reading them in order - I am not sure why others than to add a little order to my chaotic life but on the whole they don't depend on knowledge of the previous book. With a genuine trilogy that is a bit different.
Corrie Garrett's trilogy is now available as a composite book, which is where I did this re-read.The Highbury Variation Trilogy Box Set: From Highbury with Love, From London with Loyalty, & From Pemberley with Luck
It is on KU.
This is currently a freebie. Recommended for readers who like haunted houses that have thoughts and intentions. DNF for me. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... not saying This author has published 15 full length novels in since November 7th. So, yeah, make of it what you will.

Thx!!! I love very very very short books!!!! :)
for short reads, how about this collection? https://archiveofourown.org/works/644... it keeps getting updated frequently with drabbles, vignettes and short stories, written as response for various prompts. 141 chapters right now (each chapter is a separate story so they don' t have to be read in order). I have lost track how many of these I read this year.

Parting is such sorrow...no sweet about it. But....at least I read
a story that she is in. Reading a couple of others and have another one that has arrived from the PL. Anne, Anne, Anne!
Books 11-20Such Happy Manners: Pride and Prejudice Variations, Book 1 - AB 4
A Duel in Meryton Lib/E: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - Reread, AB 4
Without Vanity or Pride - Reread, PB 5
Pemberley’s Imposter - Reread, PB 5
Charitable Endeavors: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - Reread, AB 4
The Letter of the Law - Reread, AB 4
Arrogance and Inheritance: A Pride and Prejudice Variation 4

While I love both narrators, I find the imbalance between the 2 voices very difficult to listen to.
Code Name: Fitzwilliam: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - KU 1
huge chunks of story seems to be missing, making the 2nd half make no sense
A Very Tolerable Christmas: A Pride & Prejudice Christmas Variation Novella
meh. Maybe it was just this story. Others on FB say she good. I'll try once more.

In my head is an image of a couple of highschool boys snickering as they churn out book after book digitally. In a dark basement. Posting them to Amazon under all kinds of different author names.
If only George RR Martin learned to use chatgpt he'd have finished Game of Thrones in two days flat and published eighteen seven part sagas in a year. :P
Here's another prolific new author that I probably won't be finishing books from. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
What astounds me are the high stars some readers are granting all these ridiculous so-called books.Always leaves me wondering - what are they drinking.

not so much what they are drinking - more a case of how much are they being paid....
Also, the authors just set up new email addresses and create accounts to leave high star ratings.
I look at the previous reads of these "reviewers".If they have fewer than 5 books listed,, I put them down as FoAs -- friends of the author.
If they have a lot of reads, I sometimes check their books against mine. If they don't have multiple books that are also on my list, FoA!
Oh. Wow. Nine of that ever occurred to me.If Amazon catches them, they get blackballed. I wouldn't think it was worth that trouble
I juzg finished a book. The Freckled Lady by Gabrielle Craig.
I wanted to give it 3-Stars but GoodReads won't let it be rated.
It has been removed from Amazon. So, maybe the Brazilian rainforests know something I don't know.

Great!!!
Your #19 looks like a tricky subject matter to get right. Grief like that could be so very gloomy and depressing for an entire book. Or else a bit too light, if the characters get past it too quickly.

I liked the basic story and the author has chops, but it would take a more gifted author to pull it off well. The POV alternates between Elizabeth and Darcy and, IMO, spends too much time narrating their thoughts rather than describing their actions. In Darcy's case, it would be expected to have recurring feelings of grief, regrets, and survivor's guilt, but they're not so interesting to read repetitively in a book.
To be fair, Darcy does get over it, and the book does a convincing job of making it gradual with some realistic setbacks along the way. I felt sympathy for him, but I just found it hard to stay interested with so much repetition.

A nice mix, but I agree with Katja. That's a tough read and it would take a gifted writer to balance the tumultous emotions a story like that would bring.
