I’ve been thinking about the original Battlestar Galactica lately and other movies that came out shortly after Star Wars. What are some novels that came out at the time that were trying to cash in and were they any good?

That is an interesting way to frame the question. I wonder where everyone draws the line between a genuine cash-in and a book that simply caught the same late-1970s appetite for rebels, empires and cinematic space adventure. Are you mainly looking for novels published in the first few years after 1977, or would later affectionate Star Wars-like adventures count too?
