Simon Mustoe Hi Peter, sorry you felt so strongly about this and didn't enjoy the book. The figures you refer to are actually referenced. But it's not a book to detail every bit of the science backing each claim. It's a narrative on how we need to think differently. One of the issues with the way nature conservation works today, is that it has become too overthought. The simple truths and narratives that exist in our own consciousness, as well as in the stories and knowledge of so many cultures and animals, are not presented in this way. It's a fine line to walk, as so many non-fiction books are becoming terribly detailed and have completely lost track of what nature teaches us and why. As for a practical step. There isn't a single one ... that comes down to thinking differently, which can only be done by understanding and knowing. This comes from a part of our nervous system that isn't triggered by the type of reading people expect. I stand by the book's importance. I use it every day as a manual for the practical conservation work we are doing. It's been transformational in that sense.
