Can you guess Doyle's #1?

In 1927, Arthur Conan Doyle did something unusual—he ranked his own Sherlock Holmes stories. Twelve favourites, in order, published in The Strand Magazine.

I'm not telling you what came first. That's the contest. :)

Two questions:
1. Which story do you think Doyle ranked #1?
2. Which Holmes story is your personal favourite—and why?

I think I read this years ago, but forget the ranking. So without googling, I would probably say the first or maybe even most of them would be stories from The Adventures - maybe something like The Speckled Band, The Copper Beeches, The Red Headed League something like that.
I guess among my favorites would be The Blue Carbuncle and the Copper Beeches. I like the creepiness of The Sussex Vampire and the melodrama of Charles Augustus Milverton. Probably could find something I like in most of the stories.

My own favorite has always been "The Red-Headed League" for its sheer, bizarre creativity. :)

I'm going to guess either Speckled band or Scandal in Bohemia - and since we are listing favorites, my favorite mystery is also Red Headed league; I remember as a child just being so vexed that Jabez Wilson was copying out of an encyclopedia - will always remain in my memory.
