I was once in a discussion group consisting mostly of literature profs. One of them had written an analysis of "The Stand." He was something of a soccer ball among the group. I, an econ prof who had written some fiction, agreed with him that "The Stand" was a literary masterpiece and I added that, IMHO, King is the greatest writer of his era. A minority opinion among the literati, but I think that history will bear me out. After all, we still read Edgar Allen Poe and King is a much better writer.
