message 31: by Amber (new)

Amber Grim is what I liked about this book the most😄
Somehow, it speaks to ur concerns about life n the mystery yet commonality of impending death.

message 32: by Mark (new)

Mark André Being, I’m guessing, that I’m much closer to the ‘impending’ than you are, I found the narrator’s harangue a bit off putting. 🙃

message 33: by Mark (new)

Mark André Thank you, Vince. I’ll read anything that Tolstoy wrote. But this one didn’t catch my fancy. Maybe I should try again. - )

message 34: by Mark (new)

Mark André Thank you, India M! - )
Nice to hear from you. Not my favorite Tolstoy.

message 35: by Mark (new)

Mark André Thank you, Steffi! - )

message 36: by MihaElla (new)

MihaElla I agree it's not fun (especially the title) but the story is brilliantly mastered. For me it's 5* :))

message 37: by Mark (new)

Mark André I agree. It is masterly written. Maybe I need a reread. - ))

message 38: by Amber (new)

Amber Well, on that I agree, the language thing, but one never knows who's closer to.the impending, guess that's what Tolstoy is trying so hard to say "the end is nigh" 😂

message 39: by Mark (new)

Mark André Thank you, Swaroop! - )
Nice to hear from you. My least favorite Tolstoi.

message 40: by Mark (new)

message 42: by Patricia (new)

Patricia I'm sorry you didn't like the book that much, as you may know, i want to start reading Leo Tolstoy's works so is it hard to read?

Hi Patricia! Tolstoy is one of my favorite authors. I think he is a brilliant storyteller. I hardly remember why I wasn’t particularly enthralled by this story, but my prejudice may have something to do with my own age related situation. Worry not, your going to love his writing! - ))
