I'm about 3/4 of the way through your book. I am really, really enjoying it. I love the ocean, swimming, and bodysurfing. I lived in So. Cal for about 4 or 5 years, during the late 70's to early 80's. I am familiar with most of the beaches mentioned. This book is a good combination of interesting stories with a lot of insight. Very good writing for a first timer.
I've not looked at my book on Goodreads for sometime and boom, I found your nice comment. Thanks. I want to hear from you when you finish the book, thanks.
Hi Debbie. I finished the book 2 days ago. I had a hard time putting this book down, even thought it was not a "thriller:" As I mentioned, I love swimming, bodysurfing, and the ocean, so many of the swimming and water people mentioned - coaches, and prominent swimmers/surfers, were familiar to me. I have spent a lot of time at the beaches, mostly Northern California, but also Southern California. I never truly appreciated the ocean lifeguards. I do now. Your book gave me great insight into what it was like to have been a woman lifeguard back in the '70's and '80's. I found this part fascinating. These days, I do spend a lot of time in both Santa Cruz and Capitola. Each year, it seems, the Junior Lifeguard programs get bigger and more thorough. I see lots of girls participating in them, too. I bet that your trailblazing back in the 1970's has had an influence in this great opportunity for young women. As I read the book, I had to keep referring and re-referring to your biography on the last page, to check if this really was your first book. You write extremely well, as if you are a seasoned writer. If you ever decide to write another book, I will definitely want to read it!
