Okay, so a slightly depraved genre, but we have all read them and something about them appeals or intrigues. And I want to read more ...

I actually haven't read a lot in this genre. But I'm intrigued so I will keep an eye for discussions and recommendations.

Thanks for the invite. It's a fantastic idea Rachel:) Did you see my comments earlier about the fact that not a lot of people I know have read ! I find it hard to believe, it's a great series, so kinky but so funny:)

Thanks for the invite Rachel! This seems very interesting. I've read the Dark Duet series, the first six chapters of the Flesh Cartel and I have the Stockholm Syndrome series in my TBR long time ago, maybe now I'm going to read it sooner. ;)

Hi Rachel, thanks for the invite. I have read a few things in this genre, but not lots. I can be a bit bipolar in my reading, flip-flopping between sweet romances and dark themed books. I guess I have eclectic tastes.

My post is gone. Ugh. Anyway, yes, I'd be delighted to be part of the Flesh Cartel thread. It's got a definite Stockholm thread to it. And, other than Special Forces I would say it's had the most impact on my psyche.

Hi! I've read a few of those books listed. I didn't find anything to strange about Stockholm Syndrome other than I didn't think it was a case of Stockholm Syndrome--not a medical professional, but my opinion.

Hi Vivian, welcome! Yeah, Stockholm Syndrome loosely fit the parameters, Valentine was a willing captive, but oh well, it's a good read. Between this and the M/M Series group my TBR is going to overflow. Looking forward to chatting with you.

Thanks for the invite Rachel! I admit amidst the fluff in my M/M journey, there are moments I don't mind some dark and twisted romance. A little bit of captivity does the literary heart some good. :-)

Hey everyone, welcome! I'll be co-moderating this group with Rachel to make sure everyone here falls prey to Stockholm Syndrome properly.;)

It almost feels pointless to introduce myself, since I only see familiar faces so far, but for the new depravity lovers that are about to join: I'm Katinka, but will also listen to Loco, Lo, Loe, Kat and Tinka. I've read quite a few books that deal with Stockholm Syndrome in one way or the other and am interested in the psychology behind it. Other than that, dark and twisted reads about captivity are just one my kinks (the kind I don't tell my colleagues about). Ha!

Thanks for the invite, Lo! :) And um, I'm not sure if this has been recommended already, but: Gamble Everything. This is based on a Stockholm syndrome premise too (does it count if the person -willingly- sacrifices himself for captivity to save another person? He basically has no choice but to save his father. There is an eventual twisted bond formed between captive and captor) but has some verrry kinky stuff: (view spoiler)[ age play, daddy kink (hide spoiler)] so might be too dark for some :S It's not on the same level as Flesh Cartel, but maybe a few steps below it. I guess this might be fitting for the Dark Room if you choose to add it.

Katinka, thanks for the invite! I'm looking forward to all your recs. Don't think I've read much StockSyn stories beyond what's on the shelve already.

So far, I can only think of Waiting in the Throes, a WIP I'm still following. It fits the captivity non-con theme 110%, but alludes to the Syndrome only in passing (and that's a good thing, would have been an unbearable read otherwise).

@Aimee, I am adding Gamble Everything to The Dark Room. I haven't read it yet, but have heard it is a "know your limits" type of read. So if you don't mind, I will let you post the warning on the thread of what potential readers should be prepared for in this series.

@Day-thief, I didn't make through Waiting in the Throes, that was a harsh read for me and I ended up abandoning. You are a tough one to stick with it. Is the series into Part two yet? If so how are you finding it? Though I probably won't bring myself to pick it up again, I did wonder where Grey was taking the story.

Just added Stockholm Syndrome to my want to read list. From the discussion it sounds like a great book and got great reviews. Never heard of it.

Yeah, “Waiting in the Throes” is the stuff of nightmares.
The blurb on GR is mightily misleading, since the first part solely focuses on the captivity. The second part (after captivity) is well underway now. But I’m not regretting that I ever came across it and that I continued after the very first horrific chapters (not that it ever gets better).

The writing is superb IMO. And part 2 is easier to 'enjoy'. It’s mindboggling good in how it describes the recovery of a heavily abused boy – the hospital staff, the family and best friend, the police – each character is unique and all their reactions seem super realistic. And the book even manages some humor, while the monstrosities of what happened always simmer underneath. No idea what will happen next, though.

Once part 2 is finished, it could even work as a standalone. It would easily surpass books like “Aaron”.

@Day-thief, could book 1 be read as a stand alone? I have no patience for installments, so I decided to read Waiting in the Throes after it was completed.

Also, you read Angel. Do you think it fits the Stockholm theme? And if you don't mind, why didn't you like it?
